Biking along

Has anyone noticed the lovely weather lately? We sure have!
And has anyone noticed that my husband really likes to ride his bike? Well. He does. And he keeps trying to convince me I would like it too. I really do not think that is a possibility. But I agreed to conquer my fear. Just one time.

So Lynn got his mountain bike all ready for me to ride, which included new tire thingys and lowering the seat down as far as it would go.  It still was too tall for me. I like being able to whenever-I feel-like-it put my feet down and stop. Because biking is scary, if you didn't know. Also. I had to extend my arms very far to reach the handle bars. Also. Those seats hurt.

So, here I am on my attempt to ride a bike.

I felt like a child. I sucked. I think Lynn tried really hard to hold in his laugher at how embarrassed he was of me. Oh well. I blame it on the stupid shifters. I don't understand them. I would just pedal and pedal my feet with no resistance, and I was a wobbly mess with no control. You can feel free to laugh at me too.

After complaining enough to Lynn, I got a little lesson on shifting and got started in the right gear. No one told me about that... but then I did lots better!  As you can see in the photo, the church parking lot is about my speed.... :) But after a few laps, I was done. Let me remind you, that seat hurt.

But don't worry. That wasn't the end of it! Since that wasn't enough, and we needed to go on a "real" ride. We packed up the bikes and went up to Farmington. We loaded the little nieces in the bike trailer and Lynn was going to pull them on his road bike, while I rode beside on his too big, hurty, mountain bike.

Here they are getting all hooked up!

The girls were pretty excited to go. Although they didn't really like having to wear helmets and scrunch into a little canvas enclosure.  As you can see from the third picture. Aliyah clonked out about five minutes into the ride. Poor little tired bobblehead.

So, the ride was fine. Ok, actually I thought I was going to die. My seat hurt. Real bad. And also my legs. We had to ride on a couple of hills, and they were not my friends. Apparently our really long ride only totaled 5 miles. I was like, "that's it?! are you kidding me?"  Don't ask me how that husband of mine can ride on a bike for 200+ miles. AND do it because he wants to. AND because it apparently is fun. Hm....

And, just because I took a picture of it, here is Lynn and Aliyah's house they made out of Dora legos :)

Oh, and Happy Spring!

  2. It makes me feel good that you are not totally comfortable on a bike either. You guys sound like me and Shaun! I am such a whimp on a bike and he is always trying to get me to ride up curbs and off of curbs and it is so scary!
